How the FOMC Influences the Markets

FOMC Market Influence

Notice in the chart above the percentage change from yearly open of the U.S. Markets (E-mini S&P futures, E-mini Dow futures, E-mini NASDAQ 100 futures, and E-mini Russell 2000 futures) and European markets (DAX futures and EURO STOXX 50 futures) during each FOMC meeting of 2016.

As you can see, the S&P and Dow have moved higher overall in close relation to one another up over 4% for the year while the NASDAQ has moved higher to catch up creating a convergence. By comparison, in Europe the DAX has moved higher in recent times but is still trying to get back to its yearly open.
